The writing space

The ILYS Writing Space is thoughtfully designed to help you overcome perfectionism, unlock creative flow, and fully immerse yourself in the writing process. By combining a clean, distraction-free environment with innovative features that enable a forward-only flow-inducing experience, it creates a space where self-expression thrives.

Each tool is carefully crafted to minimize interruptions, encourage continuous progress, keep you motivated, and help you celebrate your goals.

In the writing space, you’ll find these icons:

Celebrate Goal
#

Turn Celebrate Goal on and off icon
  • Hit your goal to enjoy a burst of fireworks to celebrate your success.
  • Positive reinforcement for the win! 🎉

Buzzer
#

Turn the Buzzer on and off icon
  • Made a mistake? No problem—keep writing!
  • The delete key interrupts your flow, so it’s met with a “buzz.”
  • Negative reinforcement for the win! 🎉
  • Prefer silence? Click this icon to switch the buzzer on and off, but you’ll still see a red metaphorical “NO!” when you press delete. Because… don’t.

Pro tip: Don’t press delete! Edit in the Editor, not while you’re writing. Don’t worry about typos, you can easily correct them all in the Editor with AI Spelling correction.

Don’t Stop
#

Enter and exit Don't Stop mode icon
  • With this turned on, ILYS will nudge (or annoy?) you to keep writing when you pause for more than 7 seconds.
  • Turn off the buzzer for quieter reminders or leave it on for maximum motivation.

Privacy
#

Enter and exit Privacy mode icon
  • Privacy is perfect when you want to flow in stealth mode.
  • Hide your letters as you type—no one will see them.
  • All of your work will be visible in the Editor when you’re done.
  • You can Peek at your words by clicking the eye icon.

Writing Letter Size
#

Change the letter size icon
  • Adjust the size of your visible letters for a comfortable writing experience.
  • You can only use this when Privacy is off.

Full Screen
#

Enter and exit full screen icon
  • Click the Full Screen icon to immerse yourself in your writing.
  • It blocks out browser tabs and other distractions.
  • For complete focus, consider turning off other devices and notifications separately.

Peeking
#

Peek at your words icon
  • Need to take a quick look at what you’ve written? Click the Eye icon to peek.

Pro Tip: Try not to peek if you don’t absolutely need to. It’s best to let your words flow and review them later in the Editor so that you minimize interrupting your flow.

Goal
#

Change the goal icon
  • Use the Bullseye icon to set or change a word count or time goal.
  • Goals can be adjusted anytime or left empty for no goal.

Focus Prompt
#

Change the focus prompt icon
  • Set a Focus Prompt to keep your intention front and center as you write.
  • They can be a helpful, gentle reminder to stay on track.

New Section
#

Create new section icon
  • Start a fresh chapter or idea by clicking the Plus icon.
  • It creates a new section without leaving the writing space.
  • Sections are saved separately in the Editor, keeping your ideas organized.

When You’re Done
#

Go to the Editor icon
  • Click the Arrow icon on the right side of the screen to move to the Editor.
  • Alternatively, click the ILYS logo to return to the Dashboard.

Renaming focus prompts and sessions
#

You can rename your session or update your focus prompt anytime by clicking on them directly and typing your new name or prompt.
